Mission

  • Develops next-generation standards for measuring process variables, especially temperature and pressure;
    • current focus: developing a primary pressure standard based on measuring the dielectric constant of helium
  • Develops novel measurement techniques and models for the thermophysical and interfacial properties of process streams;
    • current focus: using acoustic techniques to determine the thermophysical properties of semiconductor process gases

  • Fundamental studies of fluid properties;
    • current focus: measuring shear thinning and bulk viscosity of xenon near the liquid-vapor critical point in microgravity
